    “killed one broiler for Marguerite”
Carl (dad) bought a dairy farm in Cortland in 1948 (?) and renovated the barn and a shed into chicken coops. It is not suprising that we ate a lot of chicken and eggs. Dad often would kill a chicken on Sunday for dinner. “killed one broiler”, brought back a memory of dad killing a chicken one Sunday as we kids stood and watched. After chopping off the chickens head, the chicken jumped off the chopping block and ran part way around the barn before it fell dead. It was an early lesson in biology and an interesting dinner eating the spooky chicken.

  2. Yes, and not the era where you could say, “Dad, I am a vegetarian!”
